Fast Time Order To Likely Tourists
(From Our Own Reporter) BLENHEIM, February 17. The national seleetors have made a bold ultimatum to competitors in the New Zealand swimming titles this week on qualification for the Australian championships.
The selectors have entered “three or four” unnamed swimmers for the Australian meeting but confirmation of the entries is conditional on good performances at the championships. However, to meet the Australian championships deadline the cable signifying New Zealand’s intentions will have to be sent tomorrow afternoon.
This means that opportunities for registering the necessary. fast time? will be strictly limited to the heats of the first day events tomorrow morning. . ' May Miss Chance
Unless there is a change of heart by the selectors this will mean that possible nominees in A. H. Seagar, D. F. Gerard and Miss V. J. Haddon will be denied the chance of demonstrating the extent of their capabilities. The only prominent seniors competing tomorrow morning 'arg Miss S. A. Nicholson (freestyle and butterfly) and G. V. Ruzio-Saban (breaststroke) but it is unlikely that they would figure on the selectors short, list, although Miss Nicholson could well be considered as a medley swimmer.
Other ingredients likely to make the meeting eventful are:
The need for an entirely new set of junior champions to be found. Five of the 10 senior pool champions in danger- f defeat. The presence of a team of Victorian swimmers.
