HIGHEST ROLL AT AVONSIDE
Temporary Strain On Accommodation
The 1964 roll at the Avonside Girls’ High School was the highest, the ■ principal (Miss P. Stevenson) told the board of governors yesterday. The total of 792 was one more than the previous highest, in 1957. This year’s roll is 57 more than the roll at March 1 last year. The sixth form numbers had increased by 50 per cent, and there were 252 new entrants, Miss Stevenson said. The increase was much larger than anticipated, and was causing temporary accommodation problems. These would disappear when the new block was finished later this year, she added.
