ARREST OF SHIP
Writ Wired To Mast
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb, 17. A writ of arrest has been wired to the mast of the Viti, a 700-ton refrigerated vessel moored between. Bledisloe and Kings wharf. The writ was placed on the Viti by Mr W. T. Rudman, sheriff of the Supreme Court as marshal of the Admiralty Court after a warrant taken out by Mr C, Phillips, a ship’s officer looking after the vessel.
Mr Phillips is claiming nearly £7OO in wages owing. According to the owner, Mr J, Enright, of Whangarei, the vessel had been up for sale for: some months.
The writ should never have been placed on the mast, said Mr Enright. “There’s money available to pay all accounts,” he said. “I am prepared to sell the ship quite apart from any writ and have been for some time. “She will be sold if we get a price, and she will not be sold for scrap. I have offered the ship to the Government for use in the fishing industry without a fixation of price and at almost any terms,” Mr Enright said.
Guitar Hunt.—A Rotorua police dog, Ngata, is being used in a search for guitars and drums worth £2OO stolen from the Te Rangiunuora meeting house at Rotoiti at the week-end. A youth was interviewed on Sunday and one guitar and one drum were recovered.—(P.A.)
