ANONYMOUS GIFT

An envelope addressed to Lynette Magson, of Rakaia, a 14-year-old pupil at the Timaru Girls’ High School, contained £lO and an anonymous letter which said: "I haven’t found your purse, but please accept the enclosed, and don’t lose it.” On January 30 Lynette arrived in Christchurch for a day’s shopping with £5 10s in her purse. This she had earned by keeping house for her family on their farm during the holidays while her mother was in hospital. She lost the purse, which had her name and address inside. So she put an advertisement in

the Lost and Found column of “The Press,” giving the telephone number of her aunt and the details. The next evening a man rang and asked for further information. Lynette received the envelope at school on February 1. She has not got her purse back. Yesterday Lynette’s parents, Mr and Mrs H. A. Magson. called at “The Press” on Lynette’s behalf to report the gift by the unknown benefactor. “It was a wonderfully kind gesture. We would like very much to be able to thank whomever it was personally,” said Mrs Magson.
