Pleasant Point Girl Wins Title A tall 19-year-old brunette from Pleasant Point, Miss Katherine Gibson, won the “Miss South Canterbury” 1964 contest on Saturday evening. There were eight contestants. The judges, “Miss New Zealand” 1963- (Miss Elaine Miscal) and the South Island women’s travel consultant for T.E.A.L. (Miss Eva Sprott), placed' Miss Judith Ferguson, aged 17, second. Misses Freda Petersan, aged 18, and Rosolie Field, aged 22, tied for third place. Miss Gibson, who is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs P. J. Gibson, Waitaua, near Pleasant Point, was educated at Villa Maria College, Christchurch. She is a land girl on her parent’s farm and a model and has her A.T.C.L Three years ago she was wool princess for South Canterbury. Miss Gibson is vicepresident of the South Canterbury executive of the Country Girl’s Club and a former president of the Geraldine Club. A keen horse woman, she has had some success riding her hack, Student Prince.

Hutt Valley Banff.—A polished display in the three sections gave the Hutt Valley Pipe Band the champion A grade Monro Challenge Cup in the Wellington-Hawke’s Bay Pipe Band Centre’s annual contest at Masterton on Saturday.—(P.A.)
