(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE, Feb. 16. The New Zealand-brec Londoner (Balloch-Britisfc Girl), hard ridden by the leading rider, J. Johnson won. the Cheltenham Handicap at Cheltenham yesterday Starting 'at 5/1, Londoner beat the favourite Fire Cloud (13/8). Makmore (11/2) was third. Londoner was bought in New Zealand by the leading South Australian trainer, .C. S. Hayes, for .1000 guineas and is raced by Mr R. Smith, of Mount Gambier.
Course Flooded By Downpour
“The Press" Special Service ' AUCKLAND, February 16. The Waikato Racing Club’s summer meeting yesterday finished just in time. Almost immediately after the last race, and heralded by ' lightning flashes and thunder, there was a downpour which lasted' for nearly an hour. • >, Within half that time the track could not be recognised as the one which earlier in the day provided the footing for' two course records. Sheets of water covered a' big area of the birdcage and stretches of thehome straight were also flooded.
