SPECTACULAR SOUTH ISLAND FALLS.—The Maruia falls, about half-way between Springs Junction and Murchison, are only a few chains off the main road between Christchurch and Nelson, but they are unknown to many motorists. At this point the Maruia river, a tributary of the Buller, drops more than 30ft, over a break caused by the earthquake in June, 1929. The smooth white stone heightens the effect of the tumbling waters.
