Wife Opposes Husband
(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PORT MORESBY. The candidates in the Papua-New Guinea election include Handabe Tiaba, standing for the Tari open electorate, who is renowned, throughout his district as an ole'-time fight leader and a very influential man. He also has six wives. David 111, the only Kukukuku candidate, is
being actively opposed by his wife. He says she complains that if he is successful and is elected, there will be no-one to look after her, their child, and their gardens. Mr Iti says: “I have tried to tell her that if I am elected I will receive £2O a week for being a member of the Assembly. I used to earn £2 10s a week as a government interpreter.”
