Dr. Gilbreth Back For Nine-Day Tour
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 13. Dr, Lillian Gilbreth, an internationally known consulting engneer and management consultant, arrived in Auckland this morning for nine days in New Zealand to meet and address members of the Institute of Management and university faculties.
Dr. Gilbreth. who is 85. still maintains a strenuous international programme of management consulting, specialising in time-and-motion study. Born in California in 1878. she holds doctorates of philosophy. science and engineering. and honorary doctorates have been conferred on her by 20 American universities.
She became kno-wn throughout the world wihen two of her 12 children wrote a book called "Cheaper by the Dozen,” a best-selling biography which was later made into a film. Her trip to New Zealand has been sponsored by W. D. S-eott and Company, management consultants, whose general manager, Mr D. Scott, will escort Dr. Gilbreth on her New Zealand tour which will include • official engagements in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, and some sightseeing. “When my husband first told me he wanted to have six sons and six daughters, I asked him how on earth anyone could have 12 children and continue a career. He
replied: ‘We teach management, so we shall have to practise it’,” said Mrs Gilbreth. Dr. Gilbreitih visited Christchurch in February' 1960.
