Table Tennis Selwyn Has FourPoint Lead
The return of G. W. Makinson and a good display by B. T. Edwards, enabled Wallabies II to gain its first success for . some time when it beat Selwyn 11, 11-1, in the fifteenth round of the senior table tennis competition. Makinson and Edwards, with careful defence and quick hitting, were in a class above the Selwyn II players Selwyn I beat the thirdplaced team, Avonside, by 8-4. The highlight of the match was the outstanding performance by J. Pierce, who outclassed all Selwyn I players in straight sets. Wallabies I, by a good allround team effort, proved too strong for University, which it beat, 8-4. D. D. M. Stewart fought hard for University and gained three singles victories. With P. J. Ives, Mrs G. Evans and P. J. Grainger in reasonable form Eagles had no trouble in beating Dallington, 8-4. Oily D. T Mcßride showed any worthwhile resistance to the winners, and he had three good wins.
