STRANDINGS UNLIKELY
Rival Airlines Can Cope (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 13. It is unlikely that many passengers will be stranded in New Zealand as a result of the Qantas pilots’ strike. A Tasman Empire Airways spokesman said the immediate outlook for passengers booked to fly to Australia was good. “Despite the threat of the strike,” he said tonight, “there is enough capacity on T.E.A.L. and 8.0.A.C. aircraft to handle those booked to leave Auckland with little or no inconvenience to passengers.” With fewer services from Wellington and Christchurch across the Tasman, there could be some delay, with alternate days of travel. The first Qantas aircraft to be affected in New Zealand was one which arrived tonight from Sydney and was scheduled to return at 9 d’clock tomorrow morning. A flight to Nandi at 8.30 p.m. was also cancelled, as was one from Christchurch to Sydney. Flights likely to be affected on Saturday are from Auckland to Brsbane and Sydney and from Wellington to Sydney.
