Applications Heard By Transport Authority

Shell Oil, Ltd., could use four licences from Dunedin to feed Oamaru by road tankers but the. firm wanted to keep the price to the consumer down, said Mr E. J. Freeman representing Shell Oil I few Zealand, Ltd., Wellington, in an application before the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. S. Haywood), yesterday. The application was for amendments to the firm’s continuous goods service licence to allow two tankers to work in the No. 9 Transport Licensing Authority District and Waitaki county. At present Oamaru is served by a small coastal vessel which is soon to be withdrawn. The amendments would allow Oamaru to be served by road tankers from Timaru, said Mr Freeman. There would be no loss of revenue to the Railways Department as the department did not have any of the business involved.

The application did not interfere with the agreement between the firm and the department, said Mr F. D. Daly, representing the department. The Authority ruled that he would refer the matter to the No. 10 Transport Licensing Authority, indicating that he proposed to grant it, and suggesting that it be granted. He granted an-amendment to. the same licence changing the description of class of goods to.be carried by five vehicles of the applicant firm to “petroleum products in bulk waggons and/or other petroleum products in side racks or rear trays on tank waggons.” Mobile, Atlantic, and B.P. had the right to carry minor products in bulk, and the application would remove an anomaly and give the applicant firm the flexibility it required today, Mr Freeman said. An amendment to a contanuous. goods service licence to allow dornocHe of two tankers ait Invercargill, anplied fcr by BJ». (NZ). Ltd., South Island branch, was granted with a special conditiojß giving effect to a dreiflt agreed between the applicant firm

and the Railways Department.

Other applications heard and granted were that of the transfer of a rental vehicle licence from David John Paitehett, Christchurch, 'to Utility Rental Vehicles, Dtd., Christchurch (Mr J. H. N. Dawson); and the addition, by amendment, of one vehicle licence for the transport of general goods, to a continuous goods service licence held by Alfred Hugh Johnston (Mr G.- H. Gould), Christchurch.
