NAVY LEAGUE PRAISED
Admiral Barnham’s View The Navy League of New Zealand was better than the Navy League of the United States said the president of the American body (RearAdmiral R. Barnum) in Christchurch yesterday after his return from a quick visit to Byrd Station, the South Pole and Scott Base, in Antarctica. “I think that possibly the Canadian Navy League is the finest group I know,” he said. “I think New Zealand is just about as good as they are. “We, of course, are very active in some fields. But we are not as good as either of these, but we are expanding in the United States.”
Admiral Barnum said that he recently visited the headquarters in Christchurch. "The Stone Frigate,” where he met 15 br more sea cadets. While in the Antarctic Admiral Barnum visited Byrd Station and Pole Station in one day by means of a Hercules, fitted with skis. He was, he said, impressed With the calibre of the men. Working in the Antarctic, regardless of their nationality. “If we can interest our sea cadets in those sort of careers, when they , are available to them I think we will be doing a very good job,” he said.
