Plantation Fire
Firemen fought a fire in old logs, scrub, and undergrowth in a plantation at Burwood for five hours yesterday. No standing trees were damaged. The fire broke out on property owned by Fletcher Holdings, Ltd., a mile and a quarter from Burwood road and three-quarters of a mile in from Lower Styx road. The alarm was given at 4 p.m., and engines from the Headquarters and St. Albans stations and the New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade, with the Waimairi County Council fire tender, went to the plantation. The last fire engine left about 9 p.m. The 200-gallon tanks .on the engines were used to fight the fire, supplementary supplies of water being obtained in rotation.
