Snell, Davies 1000 Metres
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Feb. 12. P. G. Snell arid JI-ll.' Davies will now definitely be making a; world record attempt in the 1006 metres in Hamilton on Saturday, February 22f. Final confirmation was received by the Hamilton Athletic Club yesterday that both will be competing. The race, at Seddon Park, will virtually be a re-run of the abortive.’world record attempt at Western .Springs on January 27. In that race Snell gave away what might have been a world record, when he stopped to assist Davies to his feet after lie tripped, Mr D. M. Taylor, president of the . Hamilton Athletic Club, said today it had been suggested to both athletes the purpose of the race would be to attempt the world record. They had agreed. Competitors in the mile event at the Agfa athletic meeting in Auckland on Saturday will be checked by 18 time-keepers in case one should better the world record.
Mr F Sharp, Auckland Athletic Centre president, said’ that with Davies, Snell, and the American, C. Weisiger, in the - same ■ race “we cannot afford to take any chances about, inadequate timing.”
