Baskets Will Still Line Streets
Because the Canterbury Retailers’ Association feels that the opening of the Christ-church-Lyttelton road tunnel should be marked by the city, the 1011 flower baskets which were part of the street decorations for the Queen Mother’s visit will still be hung. They will line the streets for a fortnight this month from February 22. Mr N. M. West, the secretary of the retailers’ association, said that retailers be-
lieved the opening of the tunnel was as mementous an occasion for Christchurch as. a Royal tour. Mr West appealed to the public to respect the. baskets and also what the retailers were doing to beautify the city.
The Government of Tanganyika has decided to change the President’s salute from 21 guns to African drums.
