Supreme Court 2½ YEARS’ GAOL
Theft, False Pretences
Neil James Munro, aged 50, was yesterday sent to goal for two years and a half by Mr Justice MacArthur in the Supreme Court. Munro pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court on February 4 to a charge of theft, 11 charges of false pretences, and two charges of obtaining credit by fraud.
He was sentenced to imprisonment for two years and a half on the theft charge, to similar sentences on each of eight of the other charges, and to one year’s imprisonment on each of five of the other charges, all the sentences to be concurrent. “You have a bad record of crimes involving dishonesty, his Honour said to Munro when sentencing him. “It is indeed a great pity that a man who undoubtedly has ability should find himself again before the Court for sentence upon a large number of offences of exactly the same nature as have occurred on several previous occasions,’’ he said. Mr A. Hearn appeared for Munro, and Mr C. M. Roper for the Crown.
