N.Z. Youth Overseas
Young New Zealanders continue to participate in. increasing numbers in the service programme of the world Council of Churches overseas, according to the annual report of the youth committee of the National Council of churches in New Zealand. Janet Ratcliffe, who spent 18 months with an ecumenical team in Italy has transferred to serve in Austria. Early in 1963, half a bale of flour bags and sugar sacks was sent to Italy by C.0.R.5.0. to assist Miss Ratcliffe in her homecraft work in Falema.
Youth groups continued in their support of the Christmas appeal, said the report and special contribution of 500 dollars each were made to the following projects: Mombasa Youth Centre, Youth Commission N.C.C. Indonesia, leadership training, Korea, and teen-age drug-addicts. East Harlem. Other youth groups are continuing to provide scholarships for students in Indonesia. During the year, a suggestion was made that the Y.C.N.C.C. make a gift to the Centre of Reconciliation in Coventry Cathedral, where youths of all denominations and from many countries participate in the programme of work and activities. Enquiries have been initiated and the matter will be discussed at the annual meeting.
Switch On Fire.—Two Are engines from the Sydenham .station answered a call to a j switch on fire in a City i Council pumping station in I Halswell road at 12.42 p.m. 1 yesterday. The fire caused only slight damage.
