Title Fight For Scanlan, Nikira

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 17. - The Auckland Boxing Association has lodged a challenge for Earl Nikora’s NewZealand light-heavyweight title on behalf of Tuna Scanlan. 1

This is the latest turn to a long series of negotiations by several associations to bring Scanlan and Nikora into the ring. The Auckland association had planned to match Nikora and Scanlan for the New Zealand middle-weight championship on February 13, but Nikora’s manager, Mr W Baker, advised the A.B.A that he had agreed for Nikora to meet Scanlan in Otago on February 24. But the manager of Scanlan, Mr L. Tansey, said he was not prepared to take this bout.

Nikora, however, will hav» a chance to win the middtee weight title as his bout with Wally Findlay in Dunedin on February 3 will be for the vacant title. “Scanlan will challenge Nikora now for the light heavy-weight title,” said the president of the Auckland association (Mr B. R. Arnott) today. “We do not care what happens regarding the middleweight title.” Scanlan's next match will be against the Tongan, Filo Manuao, at Auckland on January 30. Shortly before Christmas Manuao beat Nikora in Auckland.
