Woman Suffers Burns In Fire (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Jan. 14. Mrs B. E. Plank is in Whangarei Hospital today suffering from extensive bums to the face, chest and arms received when she fought a fire which gutted her home at Puwera. about eight miles west of Whangarei, early this morning. Her condition is reported as satisfactory. Mrs Plank was awakened by the sound of flames at the rear of the house. She began to throw water on the fire, but the flames blew back and caused her burns. Neighbours were quickly on the scene, but there was nothing they could do. The house was completely destroyed. Mrs Plank and her son, aged 13, escaped with nothing but their night attire.
