Lost Copper Lode
Sir, —The report in your paper that the lost copper lode at the head of the Arahura river may be a “myth” reminds the writer that round about the turn of the last century or before an attempt was made to establish a quartz crushing plant at the head of the Wilberforce river, to extract the gold which was reported there. A lot of machinery was taken in and I believe is there to this day. The project was abandoned because of the intense cold experienced by the men erecting the plant. I knew two of the men who worked there and they assured me that there was a “hill of copper” there and that they had seen it. They considered that at some future time it might be valuable. One wonders if there could be any connexion with the Arahura lead. —Yours, etc., A.
