The All Blacks
Sir, —As a New Zealander, I heartily support the arguments of T. Phipps. I, too, would have been only too pleased to read of a great deal more about the courage of the Llanelly side in adversity, and of how young Price performed. But, dear me, it is not considered (as a Frenchman put it) ze cricket in ze game of Rugby that others should be capable of playing Rugby better than or as well as the All Blacks. So we have our schoolboys all running round to chant: “I do not care that the other fellow played so well, but this I know and know to tell, ’twas a famous All Black victory.” That kind of stuff sickened me of Al] Black tours long ago. For years past I have looked to our schools and universities for the real Rugby game. The only aspect of All Blacks I am concerned in is biography. Yours, etc.,
R. M. THOMSON. January 6, 1963.
