N.Z. TOURIST FILM HAILED OVERSEAS

WELLINGTON, Dec. 16.
The National Film Unit's new tourist film “Amazing New Zealand” had been awarded the Polytechnic Film Trophy at the thirteenth international tourism and folklore film week at Brussels, the Minister of Publicity and Information (Mr Shand) said today. The film was previously judged the best tourist film at the Venice festival of documentary films and was placed second in the section for tourist and sports films. The Polytechnic Film Trophy is awarded each year to the best publicity film produced by a national organisation member of the International Union of Official Travel Organisations, of which New Zealand is a member.
The trophy was won last year by France. The Minister said negotiations had just been completed with Columbia Pictures for a seven-year contract for world wide theatrical and television screenings.
Non-theatrical rights would be retained by the Tourist and Publicity Department, so that the film could still be used) for tourist promotional purposes.
and has been associated with the feature “Charade,” expected to run in Melbourne for many weeks. “Amazing New Zealand" will also be screened on New Zealand theatre circuits.
