Christmas
Sir, —The festive season is with us again, and again the city is bowing to the idol of Santa Claus The; business firms are again “cashing in on Christmas" Along with the Christmas trees, coloured lights, and the empty trappings which come and go every December, commercial radio and the newspapers tell us many things about Christmas For example, it is a good time to do that concreting job or to put that “Christmas shine" on the car, or to give specie! (expensive) gifts to your friends In short, the birthday of Christ has become a yearly rite of commerce, heavy spending, and worship of Santa Claus. In the middle of all this, apparently insignificantly. stands a small but b'-tufiful, bare but meaningful. tableau of the Mother and Child, in the grounds of the Cathedral. I wonder if anyone else noticed it?—Yours. I etc., R. G. DENSEM. December 16. 1963.
