STEELWORKS Engineers Coming To Study Scheme

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 16. A team of four engineers from the two English firms appointed as consultants for the iron and steel project will begin work in New Zealand in January.

The Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall) said tonight the engineers were expected to arrive in New Zealand on January 8. They would be joined later in the month by another senior representative of the two firms, McLellan and Partners and W. S. Atkins and Partners. The arrival of these engineers would mark the beginning of a period of intensive study and planning for the project, said Mr Marshall. It was expected rapid progress would be made because of preliminary work already done in London. Since their appointment just over a month ago, the consultants had been studying a great deal of material sent to them by the provisional board of the New Zealand Steel Company. They had also had talks in London with the Assistant Secretary

of the D.5.1.R.. Mr I. D. Dick, and with Mr D. Kear. of the Geological Survey. The consultants had also discussed the project with Mr H Lownie, of the Battellr Memorial Institute. of Colombus. Ohio, technical advisers to the provisional board, who had visited them in London. The consultants would be working closely with the Battelle Institute and on their way out to New Zealand next month the engineering team would call at Columbus. Mr MarahaU said it was expected that within six months the consultants would be able to report to the provisional board on their initial study.
