RASPBERRY CROP
Uncertainty At Waimate
(From Our Own Reporter) WAIMATE, Dec. 16.
Supplies of raspberries for domestic use might be insufficient to meet the demand if the bulk of the crop in that district ripens during the holiday period. This was revealed at a i meeting of the Waimate Berry Fruit Growers’ Assoc.ation. There appears to be In certainty on when picking will begin or how much fruit will be available for factories during the holiday period. Some owers suffered considerable losses of their earlier fruit, especially in the | frost in late November. The demand from factories on the available fruit is con- : siaerable. I There was also a lengthy 'discussion at the meeting on a few growers selling raspberries below the minimum price set by the Otago Raspberry Marketing Committee The opinion was freely expressed that it might become necessary to institute legal proceedings, although this step had been avoided so far.
