‘Women Do Not Use Brains Enough’

I Hew Zealand Preu Auocialion)

PALMERSTON N, Dec. 11? Women do not use their brains enough, according to the Director of Education (Mr A. E. Campbell). Mr Campbell aaid this tonight at the Palmerston North Girls’ High School prise-giving ceremony. Girls knew they would get married and although they were willing to learn they felt the'* could not use their education.

“I emphasise it to important to you and the country to improve your knowledge and skill by further study,” he said. Competition >r jobs was becoming increasingly keen and those who failed to equip themselves would regret it, said Mr Campbell The rapid growth of population meant New Zealanders would have to do more for themselves.

The pattern of the lives of women was changing. They married earlier and many continued working. Others returned to work after raising a family, he said. A wife and mother needed a good general education just to look after her family. Some women, however, did realise the importance of a sound education and these were serving in many occupations with distinction.
