WOMAN SHOT BY BIRD
Old Colonel ‘Shattered? (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) LONDON. December 8. A pheasant strot a colonel's wife while she was hunting today. The incident happened after Colonel Henry Smith, aged 75, of Ditchingham, Norfolk, wounded the pheasant. Thinking it was dead, the colonel slung it acroes his double-barrelled shotgun. Tire pheasant was not dead. Its feet hit one of the triggers and the colonel's wife, Helen, aged 58. was shot in the back and one arm. She was “as well as can be expected” in hospital last night. The colonel commented: "The whole thing’s shattering. I’ve always regarded myself as one of the safest shots in the county."
