HAY’S DECORATED CHRISTMAS CAKE COMPETITION

Judging by the 83 entries in Hay’s Theatrette, Christmas ranks high on the list of occasions we celebrate with a specially decorated cake and here we have proof positive of the skill and imagination of New Zealand women in this sphere. Dainty, gauzy confections—more like lace than icing—stand alongside others almost stark in their simplicity. After studying the entries in the novelty section you will feel inspired to try something really different this Christmas. The judges have made their awards. Now the public may cast a 3d vote for the entry with the most popular appeal. The winner of this public vote will receive a special award and the net proceeds will be given to the “Save the Children” Fund. CAN YOU MAKE FATHER CHRISTMAS IN ICING? The Principal of the School of Icing, Mrs Ruddle, will show you how in 15-minute classes daily at 2.15, 2.45; and 3.15 p.m. from December 2 to December 6. Classes limited to 10 persons and the fee of Is will also go to the above Charity. Father Christmas is on our Roof. Bring the tiny tots early and avoid the queues. Record the event with a photograph if you wish. Dragon slides, The Giant Rocker, Flying Machines and Jumbo all create the right mood for a visit to this year’s spectacular roof show, “Peter Pan and Wendy." Breathtakingly beautiful, this won-

derful world of fantasy, “Neverland” is patterned along the lines of our exciting Christmas window last year, but greatly expanded because of the larger area available on the Roof. Meet the Darling children with their curious nursemaid Nana; enjoy their flight through the night with the dainty Tinkerbell and tingle when you meet the pirates with the wicked Captain Hook. This reproduction of a well loved story will be a joy to young and old alike. Admission 6d.

Top off an exciting day with coffee and a snack at our Continental Roof Cafe while the children enjoy an ice-cream or milk-shake. —Advt.
