Later Date For Next Year’s N.Z. Golf Circuit

WELLINGTON, November 22.
The major golf tournaments in New Zealand next year will be in November and December, instead of September. The change in dates follows an approach by New Zealand to the Australian golf authorities.
Negotiations resulted in Australia agreeing to leavq from November 15 onwards tree of major tournaments. New Zealand's request was in order that the six sponsored tournaments and the Open championships could be held at a time when the weather was likely to be I better, and more public support attracted. The result of the negotiations was reported to the golf council today by the ctiairman (Mr G. P. Roberts) who. with Mr D. O. Whyte, met a sub-committee of the. Australia Golf Union in Sydney.
The council decided that the New Zealand Open championship should be at Shirley from November 19 to 21, with alternative dates of November I? to 14 should Hie Australian golf circuit close earlier than at present anticipated. It was also decided that in future the amateur championships should be separated from the Open championship meeting. The council will invite the Hamilton club to stage the amateur from October 24 to 31. Failing Hamilton’s accept-
ance, an approach will be made to the Wellington association tor it to be in the Wellington area. South Island Applications The 1954 North Island golf championships will be held at Whangarei either during the last week-end in August or the first week-end in September. Applications will be invited from clubs to stage the South Island championships in mid-August. The boys’ championships are being offered to the Manawatu Golf Club. 1
