Auckland Zoo Praised
(K.Z. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 20. Auckland has “really a very nice zoo.” Mrs Joy Adamson decided after she spent more than half an hour strolling round the city's zoo yesterday afternoon. The Austrian-born Mrs Adamson is the authoress of the famous books on Elsa, the lioness she reared until it was old enough to live in the wilds. In Melbourne she cried over the caged lions and said the zoo should be burnt down. She described the Wellington zoo as degrading. After looking at Auckland's lion pit she said, “Here at least there are rocks, trees, graoa—something for them to jump about on.” Mrs Adamson is in New Zealand as part of a worldwide campaign to raise £112,000 to establish wild life reserves in Africa.
