APPROVAL FOR PLANS

Acclimatisation Soc. Offices

Acclimatisation societies were unable to buy land on which to build office premises, the president of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr F. T. Gorton) said at the monthly meeting of the council. The council agreed to Mr Gorton’s request to approve plans of office premises for submission to the Department of Internal Affairs. The society would have to submit the plans before legislation could be brought down to allow societies to buy land for this purpose, he said. The plans before the meeting would not have to be the ones finally used, said Mr N. I. Voyce. The top price for a building would be about £BOOO, according to the builder who prepared the plans. However, the price would be considerably reduced by the use of different materials and other alterations, he said. The executive committee had bought a plywood boat at a cost of £75 for use mainly at Lake Ellesmere, said Mr Gorton. It would go into use shortly. The partridges at Greenpark were now laying, he said. One or two sittings of eggs were under incubation by bantams. Progress in this field to date was “quite encouraging.”
