RETIREMENT OF LORD
Won £59,000 In Stakes (N.Z. Press Asin—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Nov. 14. The nine-year-old New Zealand-bred champion. Lord, winner of £59.364 in stakes, has been retired, the Melbourne “Herald” turf writer, ,’ack Elliott, reported today. His owner, Mr W. R. Kemball. has given the veteran of 80 races to Miss Kay Fairbairn as a present. Miss Fairbairn, aged 21. will ride and look after Lord at her father's cattle property “GlenTedder.” at Ballan. Victoria. Mr Kemball had hundreds of offers from horse-lovers to care for Lord in his retirement, but he wanted to be sure that Lord would have the best of treatment in his retirement. He chose Miss Fairbairn, who is well known as a show-ring rider. She will take delivery of the horse on Sunday. During his career. Lord won 271 races, was second 13 times and third 11 times. He won 19J races at Caulfied, s-ven at Flemington and one at Randwick. Lord was known as “the giant killer” because he beat all the champions of his time They included Tulloch, Sky High, Aquanita. Dhaulagiri, Sailor's Guide, Prince Darius and Sir Blink. Until Wenona Girl won the £lO.OOO Memorial Mile at Flemington. Lord was the greatest stake-winner at present racing. Among Lord's big race wins were the Memsie Stakes (four times), the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (twice), the Queen's Plate (twice), the St, George Stakes (twice), the C. F. Orr Stakes Owice), the Victoria Handicap, the Liston Stakes, the Underwood Stakes (twice), the Craiglee Stakes and the Futurity Stakes.
