QUESTIONS FOR CANDIDATES
Educational Issues Listed AU local Parliamentary candidates will receive a questionnaire from the Canterbury School Committees’ Association concerning teacher training and school services. The association agreed to adopt a list of questions suggested by the Wellington association. It was decided to add an extra question concerning the medical services to schools, at present under review. The questionnaire asks:— “If returned to Parliament, will you and your party: “Implement three - year teacher training beginning in 1965? “Make university entrance the minimum academic qualification for admission to training colleges, beginning with the 1965 intake? “Provide immediately ancillary services in State schools, e.g. clerical assistants, librarians and teaching aids wherever, and as soon as they become available?” The Wellington association, which compiled the questions, asked for Canterbury's support, which was given unanimously.
