Rampant Cholera
(N Z.P.A .-Reuter— Copy right) NEW DELHI, Nov. 13. More than 1200 persons have died of cholera in Orissa and other areas of north-east India where the disease is raging in epidemic form. The highest death toll has been in the Cuttack and Balasore districts of Orissa where, according to official figures. 777 persons have died since October. Another 458 persons have died of cholera in the last four months in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar not far from East Pakistan. A new outbreak has been reported in the Maida area of West Bengal between Bhagalpur and East Pakistan. In Orissa mass inoculations are being carried out to prevent the spread of the disease. The death toll is reported to be gradually going down. Previously people were dying at the rate of 20 a day. Latest figures show the death rate in Orissa at 11 a day. In the Bhagalpur district nearly two million people have been inoculated and 200 countryside wells have been disinfected.
