AMERICA’S CUP
Trials Dates (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, Nov 14. The New York Yacht Club yesterday announced the dates of three sets of trials to be held next year to pick the 1964 America's Cup defender, the New York “Herald Tribune” reported At least four—possibly more —American 12-metre yachts are expected to compete. The pattern of trials laid down last year for the Australian challenge by Gretel will be followed again. A six-day preliminary series nas been scheduled for June 8-13 on Long Island Sound, observation races will be sailed off Brenton Reef. Newport, from July 3-13, and the final trial series will begin over the cup course off Newport on Aug-* list 17. September 6 was named as the last day of the trials However. a “Tribune’* correspondent said the chances were that a selection would be made before that date. America must name its defender a week bebefore the series begins on September 15.
