Centre Gives Approval Two Canterbury athletics records set by the Empire Games representative, R. D Tait. were last night approved by the Canterbury centre. The new marks, which were set at the opening meeting, were the discus (166 ft 2jm) and the shot put (50ft 6jin). A long jump mark of 23ft 2|:n set by W Jowett was not approved as it had not been checked by the referee An under 17 girls’ javelm throw by Miss C. Lightfoot, and a boys' under 17 shot put of 27ft 2in were deferred The chairman of ’ the records sub-committee (Mr G E Vollerl. who brought forward the applications for records, recommended that the under 17 shot put not be approved as, be said, it was not up to the 29ft standard.
