FRIESIAN OAKS CONTEST
Outstanding Class Of Six Six exceptional two-year-old heifers with an outstanding average production for their age of 5151 b of butterfat over 305 days’ lactation contested the Canterbury Friesian Oaks competition, designed primarily to test the production of younger entries. Apimals were also judged on conformation. The winner was Deloraine Pietje Jennie, entered by N. J. Sherriff and Sons (Temuka). She yielded 5021 b of butterfat last season and scored most points for type, with 95 out of 100. One of the most notable sires used by the New Zealand Dairy Board in its breeding centres. Pukeroro Pietje, Alliance, was heir sire.
Second, with 93 points for type, and a butterfat yield of 5011 b. was Lucernvale Beets Ivy, entered by E. J. Stalker. She is the daughter of the champion Friesian, which was champion dairy cow of all breeds at the last Canterbury Show. A granddaughter of a famous American bull, whose semen was imported deep frozen, was third. She was Riverbrae P. Pixie, owned by R. G. Mclntosh. Her butterfat production was the same as the winner’s. On type she was awarded 90 points.
