Dutch Give Concert
A dance by candlelight, and children's songs in a shadow play were presented in a Dutch concert at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church hall last evening. Given by Dutch settlers, the concert was a thanksgiving to the Presbyterians and the New Zealand community at large for the welcome given to Dutch settlers over the years, said the Rev. G. W. van Tricht.
“The Emigrants." a short play in two acts, explained the difficulties of learning English and settling in a new country after being uprooted from all that was understood. Other items, all of which were presented with vigour and enthusiasm. included folk dances from Holland, and a bracket of nine international songs, each of the nine countries represented by a singer dressed in the appropriate costume.
