Govt. Action On Exporting

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 14. A report on the action taken by the Government on each of the 76 recommendations passed by the export development conference was released today by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Marshall). Copies will be sent to members of the conference and the report is on sale from the Government Printer. "Of these 76 recommendations, 64 have been accepted or endorsed by the Government,” Mr Marshall said. Mr Marshall said action was completed on 19 of the recommendations. "In this category, for example, are the recommendations on tax exemptions for increased exports and a further liberalisation of the export market development and depreciation allowances. Another 13 recommendations have been accepted in principle by the Government and action is proceeding to carry them out.

"This ■ category includes the recommendations dealing with an industrial design council, an export credit insurance scheme and a development finance corporation.” Mr Marshall said some of the recommendations in

effect endorsed existing Gov--Tssap siqj, -Xanod juatuuaa fication broadly fitted another 19 recommendations and the Government in the course of day-to-day administration was acting on these recommendations when putting its policies into practice. “Not all of the recommendations are the responsibility of the Government. There are 13 of the 76 which are the sole concern of the private sector.

“However, the Government has endorsed these recommendations and drawn them to the attention of the appropriate private organisations such as the Associated Chambers of Commerce, the

Manufacturers' Federation and the producer boards.”

Mr Marshall said that of the remaining 12 recommendations, five were still under investigtaion because of their complex nature. The other seven recommendations were ones which the Government had carefully considered and then rejected for reasons set out in the report.

“This record indicates how thoroughly the conference did its work. I am sure that because of these recommendations and the actions arising from them, the 1963 export development conference will in the future be regarded as a gathering of great significance to our economic development.”
