Promotion Of Tourism
The National Party Candidate for Christchurch Central, Mr D. J. Patchett, is interrupting his election campaign today to fly to Sydney for a four-day tourist promotion visit
He will be aboard the inaugural flight by Qantas on its new Wellington-to-Sydney service and will return to Christchurch next Wednesday. Mr Patchett, who runs his own tourist business mainly for guiding overseas hunters and other sportsmen in the South Island, has arranged to appear on television in Australia and is taking with him thar, chamois and deer trophies and. if they are caught by a business colleague early this morning, four freshly taken trout. If the Styx or Halswell rivers do not yield a catch he has two 51b trout in a deep freezer. Interviews with radio and newspaper journalists have been arranged in Sydney and Melbourne and on Sunday Mr Patchett expects to go kangaroo hunting with a Melbourne friend
“This is not just for my, own business but should do good for New Zealand tourism generally." said Mr Patchett last evening. He will resume his election meetings next Thursday.
