“YEAR TOO LATE”
Cardiac Unit Appeal (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Nov. 14. The West Harbour Ratepayers’ and Householders’ Association is determined to go ahead, as planned, with a £50,000 appeal, and a petition, for the establishment of a third cardiac unit in Dunedin. Far from the move being “premature” as suggested by Dr. J. Fulton, chairman of the Otago Hospital Board, it was 12 months too late, Mr W. M. Kellett, the president, said today. “In that time, Auckland has had an extension to its cardiac unit approved, which gives it virtually two 1 units,” Mr Kellett said. This meant it was really the fourth unit Dunedin would get. “From its previous investigation, the Hospitals Advisory Council —and Dr. Ful-ton-should already have the facts and figures needed to establish when a Dunedin unit would be justified,” Mr Kellett said.
“But they appear to be holding off till after the election before making a recommendation.”
