CHANGING BLOOD
N.Z. Method Noticed IN Z Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. November 14. Sydney doctors said today they hoped soon to be using a New Zealand surgeon's method of changing a baby's blood before the child was bom. Details of the operation have been followed with great interest in Australia. Dr. H. Kronenberg. haematologist at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, said the New Zealand operation was performed between six and eight weeks before the baby would normally have been born. The change wis necessary because the baby's Rh blood factor was incompatible with that of its mother. "The operation is delicate and will not be attempted in Australia before full details of fluid tests and further technical data are obtained." Dr. Kronenberg said. “But we are all very excited over the discovery."
