BUILDING A CITY
Gift After Film MEXICO CITY. People in the sleepy fishing village of Puerto Vallarta are abandoning their traditional siesta time for the first time in centuries. Every person able and willing to work skips the after-lunch nap to help in the construction of a film city to be used for the filming of the Tennessee Williams play “The Night of the Iguana.” The cast is headed by the Welsh actor, Richard Burton, and the actresses Ava Gardner and Deborah Kerr, under the direction of John Huston. An added attraction is the visit of Elizabeth Taylor. But “La Taylor,” as she is referred to by Mexicans, is not in the “Iguana” cast. She is accompanying Burton as a spectator. The company producing the film is building bungalows, a large residential mansion, a hotel and other structures to house the host of actors and actresses, extras, technicians, and other personnel for the picture. The newly-built structures may be turned over to the Mexican Government for tourism when the film is completed.—Reuter.
