CHAMPION FLEECE
Entry From Montalto
A Corriedale ewe hogget fleece entered by H. M. A McCormick, of Montalto, has been selected as the champion fleece of the show. The wool judges. Messrs D. Stewart and E. R. Sandes. both of Christchurch, said that the champion fleece was a fine Corriedale fleece showing magnificent style with very good colour and character. Of 58's count, it also won the Corriedale ewe hogget fleece section, which with the Corriedale ram hogget class was particularly strongly contested. Mr McCormick’s fleece also won the prize for the best fleece in the Corriedale section. Messrs Stewart and Sandes said that entries would be down this year in the Merino and stronger wool sections, but there was particularly strong competition in all Corriedale classes. The Merino wools were not quite up to the normal standard, mostly showing signs of tenderness. Among the Corriedale and halfbred wools tenderness was also evident in many fleeces, especially among the hogget wools, but on the average the wool was fairly well grown, of good style and character, though the colour was a little disappointing in some cases.
