VETERANS IN HOSPITAL
Fees Payment Not Favoured (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 13. The payment of private hospital fees of former servicemen who have been faced with delays in receiving surgical treatment at public hospitals is not favoured by the Patri ic Board and Canteen Fund Board. This was decided at the annual meeting of the boards in Wellington today. The recommendation of the boards' joint welfare committee that provincial patriotic councils be advised the payment of private hospital fees was not viewed favourably by the boards was opposed by the treasurer (Mr A. J. M Manson). The approach to the matter was negative. The resolution did not commit the councils in any way, he said He moved the recommendation be amended to read that payment of private hospital fees be favourably viewed where special circumstances applied. Mr J. Sharp (Wellington) supported the original recommendation. “Provision is there tor the payments, but we don’t want to throw it open." he said. The welfare committee had dealt with eases on their merits in the past, said Mr J. Tait (Southland). No doubt they would continue to do so. The amendment was lost.
