Picked The Winner
Cardigan Bay might have been a general hero after his fine New Zealand Cup win at Addington raceway yesterday, but to one particular patron he was much more. “He’s a real champion. He was wonderful," said 97-year -old Mrs E. A. Tidey. of Opua, Bay of Islands, after she had watched the race, her first New Zealand Cup. Though she had hoped Cardigan Bay would win, she feared that hi* handicap might prove too much. “But he came up so quickly . . . he was lovely. “Yes. I did back him,” she said with a smile.
