General Election
Sir, —I heard Mr Holyoake’s opening address. If it had not been for his expounding the Black Budget he would have said nothing. A big song and dance about a tax rebate of £2l million, nothing about the £7O million in the meantime, thanks, to the Black Budget. I don’t think there are many New Zealanders who would not be prepared to hand out £2lm in return for £7om. (No Black Budget; another loan). Loans cost money and the taxpayer pays. The sum total of the National candidates’ mentality is Black Budget, which could have been wiped as easily as the cotton mill but found they could not go without it.—Yours, etc.. THE NATIVE. November 11, 1963.
Sir,—A Social Credit government has been in power in Alberta since 1935 and in a neighbouring province for eight years. Alberta now has no public debt with consequent lower taxation, so a Social Credit government must be good. In the New Zealand 1960 election the Social Credit vote increased 25 per cent and did not decrease by 3 per cent as stated by the Prime Minister in Christchurch on November 4. To those who say that government and local body funds cannot be financed by the Reserve Bank at 1 per cent, I would point out that the New Zealand dairy industry has used this method for years. Electors have had enough of Labour and National Parties who borrow money at high interest rates with the resultant everincreasing taxation, and the Socred vote will increase again in 1963. Every harassed ratepayer and taxpayer should
get out and vote for a sanefinance government—a Social Credit government—Yours, etc., CALL ME KIWI. November 12. 1963.
