(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. November 10. The Ministry of Defence announces that two American strato-jet bomber bases will be returned to the Royal Air Force by July next year. The bases —at Fairford, Gloucestershire, and Greenham Common, Berkshire—are two of four airfields used by the United States Air Force for alert operations of 847 Stratojets of the Strategic Air Command. “It is a further step in the continuing streamlining of S.A.C. forces in the N.A.T.O. area, resulting from the gradual replacement of the 847 by growing United States missile capability,” the announcement said. “It does not signify a lessening in the overseas capability committed to the defence of Europe,” it added.
