CHURCH UNITY APPROVED
Associated Churches Of Christ (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 12. The Associated Churches of Christ will continue to press for the unity of Christian churches, the annual conference of the association decided on Saturday. A remit that the Associated Churches of Christ were not prepared to enter into any union that had two forms of baptism was defeated. Negotiations will be continued with other churches to try to achieve unity. “We are not here to fight each other over doctrine any longer.” said the convener of the union committee (Mr E. R. Vickery). The conference adopted a committee recommendation that members of the church living in areas w’here there were no Associated Churches of Christ should seek membership of other churches, while retaining membership of their own. District church committees will be asked to hold annual meetings with other churches on church extension and cooperative activities. They will be asked to ensure that official agreements are drafted, approved and adequately recorded when specific forms of co-operation are agreed upon.
